You know those people that assign a gender and first name to their vehicles??! Well, okay, that’s us. Our old truck (like literally ‘old’ – a 1978 Ford Ranger F250 super cab) named Bruce [see photos of our truck/friend above – the one that looks just like a Bruce], has been part of the family here for a long while. Less than halfway through 2016 though Bruce finally admitted he could no longer do the job we needed him for, or at least not without expensive fixes that still couldn’t guarantee his dependability, and ultimately paying more money than his worth (I mean he’s obviously priceless but, you get it..)
This year all the money raised during Amplify Austin will go toward the purchase and associated costs of a pickup truck with a full-size 8ft bed, to be largely used for transporting lumber and delivering our handmade picnic tables. (Bruce’s grandson if you will…)
How does money toward a truck help our mission?:
Because making an impact with our ReWorkers here requires all the energy and investment we can give them. When we lost the use of our full-size truck (it was a good run old friend!), the logistics of multiple deliveries or needing a full lumber restock added a notable burden on our minimal staff and daily volunteers. These are WEEKLY tasks for us, made much more difficult without the right truck. While we’ve been able to make do, it is by less efficient means and is not without extra work each and every time. Furthermore our current solution will not hold up to an increase in production which leaves us no room to grow.
A replacement for Bruce would relieve a frequent burden from our staff/volunteers and allow us more time and investment in our ReWorkers directly, which is fundamental to the success of our mission here. So, in memory of Bruce and in honor of our ReWorkers who are striving to be more of who God made them to be each day, we would be so grateful for your financial support in this endeavor.
